Geodesic Dome Ventilation Master Plan
PROJECT MASTER PLAN

Geodesic Dome Ventilation

Location: Sikeston, MO | System: AC Infinity CLOUDLINE S8 Pro.
A complete guide to acoustic isolation, structural rigging, and thermodynamic airflow for an 800 sq ft dome.

1. The Physics of the Dome Space

A geodesic dome with an 800 sq ft footprint and a 20 ft ceiling peak requires specialized volumetric calculations to prevent severe heat stratification.

Volumetric Airflow Math

  • Volume (V): ~11,000 cubic feet (high-profile spherical model).
  • Target ACH: 3 to 4 Air Changes per Hour for ambient comfort.
  • CFM Required: (11,000 × 3) / 60 = 550 CFM base requirement.

The AC Infinity S8 delivers 807 CFM max. Running it continuously at speeds 5-7 yields 400-560 CFM at a whisper-quiet <30 dBA.

Combating Stratification

Targeting the 20' heat pocket by drafting cool lower air upward.

2. Bill of Materials (BOM)

Everything needed for the build. Source locally in MO or order online.

Category Item Description Qty Purpose
Core Fan AC Infinity CLOUDLINE S8 (8") 1 Prime air mover; PWM EC Motor.
Smart Control AC Infinity Controller 69 Pro 1 Central brain with environmental probe.
Filtration 8-Inch Activated Carbon Filter 1 Pulls odors & dampens air intake noise.
Suspension Heavy-Duty Rubber Bungees (36"-48") 4 Absorbs motor vibrations.
Coupling 8" Quick-Release Duct Clamps 2 Air-tight mechanical connection.
Acoustics 8" Insulated Flexible Ducting (3ft) 1 Muffles high-frequency exhaust rush.

3. Pre-Installation Assembly

Pro Tip: Assemble the physical "air engine" on a flat, clean surface before attempting to hang anything from the dome struts.
1

Airflow Direction

Locate the directional arrow on the S8 casing. Ensure it points away from the carbon filter.

2

Join Filter & Fan

Slide the female collar of the S8 directly over the male flange of the filter. Secure tightly with worm-gear clamp.

3

Attach Muffling

Secure a 3-foot section of insulated flexible ducting to the exhaust. Curve slightly to trap high frequencies.

4

Attach Brackets

Fasten included steel mounting bracket to the S8's detachable motor casing. Snug all screws tight.

4. Structural Steel Connections

Steel dome frameworks are incredibly strong but require smart rigging to avoid metal-on-metal noise, scratching, or vibration transfer. Choose one of these approved methods.

Method A: Endless Sling

Highly Recommended

A 2-3ft polyester "endless loop" rigging sling (spanset).

  • No tools required
  • Won't scratch powder coat
  • Zero vibration transfer
Install: Choker hitch around strut, add locking carabiner.

Method B: P-Clamps

Great for Slopes

A steel band clamp sized to strut OD, lined with EPDM rubber.

  • Rigid mounting tab
  • Won't slide down struts
  • EPDM rubber isolates noise
Install: Wrap around strut, bolt eyelets with grade-5 zinc bolt.

Method C: Node Hub Bolts

Cleanest Look

Shoulder-eye bolt run through an empty connection node hole.

  • Structurally strongest point
  • Incredibly clean aesthetic
  • Utilizes existing geometry
Install: Bolt through empty hub slot with fender washer & locknut.

5. Controller 69 Pro Automation

Don't run the fan constantly on high. Program a quiet "basement" speed that ramps up smoothly only when temperature or humidity thresholds are breached.

Minimum Limit (Speed 2)

Keeps a constant, silent trickle of air moving through the filter. Prevents stale pockets.

Maximum Limit (Speed 7)

Caps the system so it never hits speeds 8-10 (which reach 39 dBA and disrupt sleep).

Auto-Trigger (> 76°F)

Set 2°F buffer. Ramps up step-by-step automatically as the dome heats up during the day.

Pro Build Tips

  • The "Leaf Blower" Acoustic Trap: In an open dome, high-frequency noise is highly directional. Put a gentle 15° bend in the exhaust duct. This forces air to bounce off the padded interior walls, absorbing noise before it escapes.
  • Detachable Motor Serviceability: The S8 features a quick-release motor box. Unclip the center housing from the bracket in 10 seconds to clean impeller blades without unhanging the duct and filter.
  • Managing Static Pressure: Ensure your carbon filter pre-filter sleeve is vacuumed every 3 months. A clogged filter forces the EC motor to work harder, increasing vibrations.
