About Ben Hanvy

Ben Hanvy is a St. Louis-based multi-disciplinary artist, designer, and builder whose work spans large-scale public murals, immersive multimedia installations, and sustainable architecture. With a foundation built on decades of technical precision and system auditing, Ben’s creative practice is largely defined by his signature “Colorflage” aesthetic—a vibrant merging of bold, saturated hues and organic forms. Whether he is transforming a city retaining wall into a 250-foot welcome mural, renovating an 800-square-foot geodesic dome, exploring experimental mediums, or producing soul-rock music and 360° projection mapping as co-creator of the duo Turbo Widget, his work consistently aims to elevate environments and foster deep community connection.

Utilizing a signature aesthetic of vibrant colors and organic shapes to transform urban spaces. Highlights include the 250-foot St. Louis Welcome Mural, funded by the 2024 ARPA for the Arts grant, which serves as a striking visual gateway celebrating the city’s quirky character.

Architectural Design & Permaculture

Applying creative vision to the physical world. This includes the ongoing structural renovation and custom furniture construction for a geodesic dome, alongside the integration of permaculture design and native plant management to merge art with sustainable living.

Turbo Widget & Immersive Media

As half of the dynamic duo Turbo Widget, Ben blends music production and a “song-a-month” strategy with high-level video rendering, motion graphics, and 360-degree projection mapping to create multi-sensory live events like the “Resonance in 360°” experience

Photographic Explorations

Capturing the intersection of urban environments, natural landscapes, and the vibrant details of daily life. This photographic work often informs the larger “Colorflage” aesthetic, documenting the textures of St. Louis and serving as a visual diary of ongoing structural and community projects.
